How Do You Quit Apps On Oneplus 5t

Force close apps with recents menu Jan 27, 2020

I can't seem to find this anywhere, on either my 6t or my 7 pro there was an option that when you swipe an app away in the recents menu it would force close it instead of just clearing it. It was called deep clear I think. For some reason apps keep hanging after the latest update and I would rather just swipe it away and kill it then have to go into the recent apps and force close it from there. Is that setting/feature no longer available?
    Thanks.

I can't say I've been aware of this option.

Majority of the time it's not necessary to force close the app. If anything, this can cause a decrease in battery life as the app will have to start all of its processes again. Force close should only really be used for stopping an app that's having issues.

I'm using Lawnchair launcher, but on OnePlus launcher you may be able to click the icon above the app (in recents view) and a force close option may be there. (The screenshot below is of Lawnchair launcher)

Yes the reason I want to do it is to force stop a hanging app. I don't know if it is the latest version of Android or the latest version of the app but it hang sometimes and force stopping it fixes it. I pretty much never clear apps from the reasons menu unless they are giving me trouble anyway. I found a screenshot on a different thread showing the option I'm talking about but it was for a 6T.

Also I see now that it was clear all instead of when you swipe an app away, but it would be nice to be able to quickly kill a troublesome app from the switcher.

Looks like OnePlus did remove this feature as others have been looking for it on the 7 series forum.

I'm just guessing there isn't really a need for such a feature anymore as android does a much better job of RAM management etc. If you're experiencing app hangs so much on so many apps that you're force closing more than one a lot, then I would suggest doing a cache wipe from the recovery mode. If that doesn't work, maybe look into doing a full backup and factory restore.

I pretty much never force close an app and never have any hangs so there must be something dodgy causing them on your phone.

Cache wipe was my next step, there have been quite a few bugs on Android X for me, I'm hoping they release a patch soon. I wanted the feature/option as a sort of stop gap until they get the OS sorted. There is definitely something up, aside from the app hangs the whole phone will sometimes freeze for a second or two during heavy use. Like it needs to catch up, but always in strange places.

    Hmm, strange.

I mean the option in the screenshot below may be of use to you while you wait for an update. This will just kill processes/apps as soon as you come out of them. Obviously this will majorly affect ALL apps and notifications, but if you can live with it for a while until you figure out a fix or get an update it may be a good idea.

    *EDIT*
Also as a work around, you could download something like CCleaner and use the RAM cleaner function. I believe you may be able to select some apps you want to keep running and just hit a button to force close all others. I know it's not perfect but it may work temporarily.
